Do you follow them and how exactly? I have to say that I appreciate people who understand something about colour genes They're sheer gibberish to me. I don't care about them, simply because I understand nothing. But I've got to admit that they are interesting. Well, luckily tobiano lewitzer + tobiano lewitzer can only be tobiano, and I only have to add bay, chestnut or black as the base color

Wait till secondary school's BI2. After that I guarantee they will make some sense, and if not, then you've done something wrong ( ie. slept through class ). :) I personally find all this genetics stuff interesting, but I'm not motivated enough to apply them in virtual breeding. Virtual, duh. The very basics can be found here, and I've personally found the link useful: www.hevosjalostusliitot.fi/varsinaissuomi/fi/liitetiedostot/Variluento_Turku.pdf (only in Finnish, tho).

Til now I didn't calculate it geneticly correct, but the link reia gave, is quite helpful ^.^ I took a look at the (grand)parents and chose the color most of them had - that works out as well

I use it, too. And I calculate genetically right I think. Maybe not everything but mainly with bay, black, grey and chestnut/sorrel horses =D

Yep, I love that calculator! And it's fun to mess around with and see what happens, also!
I mean, normal chestnut/sorrel, bay, grey and black are easy but if there's dilutions or any kind of champagne thingies then things start to get weird and I simply resort to that calculator. Somehow, now I'm thinking of putting the genetic codes for color onto my horses' pages. :'D

Oh, practical, made for a dummie like me Lewitzers are soo easy, though. They're always just black, bay or chestnut plus their tobiano markings, no need for calculators, that's the way aha aha I like it! But all those champagne dilutions etc. are interesting indeed.

I've been doing the genetics on my horses for about two years now and I absolutely love the link that Reia posted. If you need any help, feel free to PM me If I don't know the answers, I can definitely research it to find out lol.

I have been playing with genetics for several years with my SIM horses. Right now the biggest solid-colored breeds (Arabians, Akhal-Tekes, Terskers and Rocky Mountains) do have the genetic codes written down in each individual's page and the color inheritance is based of them. Other breeds don't have the codes but still the basics of inheritance is still followed. For those who have no idea of color inheritance, a good rule of thumb is to pick one of the parents' colors to the foal. Usually it cannot go wrong very much. The only exception is when double diluted (cremello, perlino, smoky cream) is mated with non diluted (bay, black, chestnut). Then the foals will single diluted (palomino, buckskin, smoky black). I and Sirpa have written several texts considering colors and genetics in the SIM world but unfortunately for the non-Finnish, they're all written in Finnish... Here are links though: Pikaopas Coat Color CalculatorilleVaihtoehdot Coat Color CalculatorilleEsimerkkejä Coat Color CalculatorilleEsimerkki coat Color CalculatorilleVärit: diluutiotVärien periytymisestäVäriteoriaa - sarjaSabino ja sen periytyminen virtuaalimaailmassaPeriytymistaulukko (perisvärit, voikko, kimo) Hevosen väritVärien periytyminen(these two are not written only by me, but very useful nonetheless and I may have written a word or two)

Thats a good site! I do understand genetics a bit, but it's difficult... I look that the color of the foal is a possibility, but I don't care much about priorities

I've been using the basics of genetics on my sim horses, eg. chestnut x chestnut = chestnut foal but none of the "advanced" stuff like marking down the genetics. I too have been using the Coat Color Calculator reia linked to get the possible colours for my foals.
